fic: Christmas Season Snapshots

Title: Christmas Season Snapshots
Author: ocean gazer

Fandom: The X-Files
Season/Spoilers: set a few years after the finale; don't think there are any spoilers at all
Pairing: Dana/Monica
Rating/Warning: just to be on the safe side, we'll say it's for teens and older
Category: fluff, holiday, ten connected drabbles
Summary: the title says it all
Archiving: Passion & Perfection, Pink Rabbit; anyone else, please ask
Disclaimers: As we all know, I don't own these characters. They belong to the wonderful Chris Carter, 1013 Productions, FOX, and a whole host of others whose names I don't remember. I made no money and received no Christmas presents for this story.
Author's Note: They say a picture is worth a thousand words; in this case, I hope that a thousand words paints ten different pictures :). This is a simple, fluffy holiday story and I hope it brings you a few minutes of enjoyment.

fic: Closer To Fine

Title: Closer To Fine
Author: ocean gazer

Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Season/Spoilers: set towards the end of season 10; no specific spoilers other than for Heroes I & II, though it probably spoils most of seasons 9 & 10
Pairing: Sam/Vala friendship, mention of Sam/Janet relationship
Rating/Warning: best for older teens and up, due to mentions of violence and torture
Category: no idea...a little hurt/comfort, a little angst, a little whump...
Summary: The aftermath of being prisoners...
Archiving: Passion and Perfection, Pink Rabbit. Anyone else, please ask first.
Disclaimers: I think it's obvious I don't own these characters or this setting. I borrowed all of it from the lovely and tolerant folks at Gekko, Double Secret, MGM, SyFy, and a host of others whose names I forget. I write solely for my own entertainment and make no money from it.
Author's Notes: As much as anything, this is writing practice for me, with no real plot or purpose. I felt like playing with second-person POV, and this is what happened. Well, actually, that's not quite true; what happened was a hot mess of a story until I scrapped most of it and started over. I still don't quite know how to categorize it...I may have to invent a category called "dark fluff," since I think this might qualify :). Hope you enjoy; feel free to tell me if you liked it, if you didn't like it, or if you think I should give up writing and take up knitting instead.

fic: No One Is Alone

Title: No One Is Alone
Author: ocean gazer

Fandom: Legend of the Seeker
Season/Spoilers: season two, set just after "Desecrated"; major spoilers for "Desecrated"
Pairing: Cara/Kahlan friendship; teeny, blink-and-you'll-miss-it mention of canon Richard/Kahlan
Rating/Warning: safe for all audiences; I don't think there are even any swear words
Category: missing scene/episode tag, fluff, minor hurt/comfort
Summary: um...it's a fluffy friendship fic...or, put another way, a story with neither a plot nor sex...
Archiving: Passion & Perfection; Pink Rabbit, if she wants it; all others must ask first
Disclaimer: ABC, Disney, Terry Goodkind, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, et al own this reality and these characters. I wrote this for my own entertainment and made no money from it.
Author's Notes: So...this is not at all the fic I had in mind when I started writing. That's probably why it sat unfinished for so long; the muse didn't want to be as angsty and serious as I intended the story to be. (Well, it also sat unfinished because RL was kicking my butt and I was doing way too many beta reads to have any energy left for writing.) Anyhow, as it turns out, my muse was right. As per usual, while this is a friendship story, you're welcome to read it as pre-slash if you wish :). Hope the story makes you smile, or, at the very least, doesn't leave you gnashing your teeth and wishing I'd left it languishing on my hard drive ;). Comments welcome, but never required.

Fic: A Very Madcap Christmas 2/2

Since I didn't get around to writing a holiday story like I'd hoped, I decided to post an older story (written in 2007). Happy holidays to you!

Fandom: Birds of Prey TV-verse
Category: holiday, humor, post-finale
Rating/Warning: Oh, probably 15 and older for language
Pairing: Nary a one …it’s a friendship fic
Spoilers: Probably a little of everything…
Summary: How hard could it possibly be to celebrate Christmas?
Archive: Passion & Perfection, Pink Rabbit. Anyone else, please ask first.
Disclaimers: We all know I own nothing, nada, zip. That honor goes to the creative, and hopefully tolerant, folks at Tollin/Robbins, the WB, DC Comics, and many others whose names escape me at the moment. This was written for my own entertainment and not only did I not make a single dime from writing it, I didn’t even get any Christmas presents for it either <g>.
Notes: This was supposed to be a short, light-hearted, and amusing story. But me being me, it grew longer and a tad more serious, and the warm fuzzies just crept in around the edges <g>. Pardon any rough edges…it just got a basic “spit and polish” edit, not the complete “shoe shine” variety. All the improbable minor disasters mentioned are made-up, not examples of “art imitates life.” Well, except the toffee incident. I’ll cop to that one <g>. Hope you enjoy reading.

Cannon Beach stormy

am i unburied from OVS yet?

I'm massively behind on my fanfic reading. Normally, I don't consider that a "must keep up on" sort of thing; it's more of a "do it when you have time" sort of thing. But I was looking around the LotS femslash community and realized just how many stories/chapters have been posted that I haven't even glanced at. (And I still have to catch up on reading "Primary" and "Cold"...they're such massive stories that I haven't been able to delve into them yet, though I hear wonderful things about them.)

It's good to know that there is so much out there to read when I finally have more energy and time for it. It's also good to know that the LotS fandom is still going strong, even with the show being canceled. It's a little scary, however, to think of how much more will be waiting for me when I actually get to that point :).

Part of the lack of time is for a good thing. After three months of unemployment, I got a job. And even though it's technically a part-time position to start, I'm working full-time for a while to help cover leaves and vacations. Learning a new job and adapting to a new schedule is always quite tiring.

Part of the lack of time is for some not-so-good things. Nothing happening to me directly, but happening around me and thus affecting me. Blah blah blah.

The biggest part, however, is because the Otalia Virtual Season has taken over my life! Ok, not really. Well, maybe. Still have to write a fourth of an episode :), but that's not too daunting. And I have a feeling I may be doing one more beta before season one ends...and then we're on to season two. But the big news is that I finished the rough draft of my upcoming episode!

That's a huge relief. I mean, yeah, I still have to edit it (my betas are working away on it as we speak...as I speak...something like that). But for some reason, rewriting/tweaking my own writing isn't too onerous for me. The little editor who sits on my shoulder has no problem telling me what's wrong with my phrasing/logic/characterization. I sometimes wonder where she came from, as anyone who knows me knows that I have little talent for bluntness.

I still can't quite believe I'm writing fanfic for a soap opera. It's so not my genre. But the experience of working on a virtual season has been quite interesting and a new challenge. I've learned a lot from betaing for such diverse styles of writing. And I'm constantly amazed at how much work it takes behind the scenes to pull this off. There's so much coordination needed to make sure things progress from story to story, to make sure we're not contradicting ourselves, to make sure the stories are the best they can be. And our lovely artists grumpybear1031 and shaych_03 -- who do the artwork in the episodes and the ads between each act -- are the unsung heroines who spend hours making the OVS visually appealing.

I've definitely stepped out of my comfort zone and have been stretching my wings, so to speak, with this experience. And that's something I wouldn't trade for the world.

Even if it does seem to have taken over my life *lol*.

Fic: Life Anew

Title: Life Anew
Fandom: Legend of the Seeker
Season/Spoilers: season two, a missing scene for “Tears”; obviously spoils “Tears”
Pairing: Cara/Kahlan friendship, Richard/Kahlan romance, brief introduction of Cara/Dahlia
Rating/Warning: if you’re old enough to watch the show, you’re old enough to read this
Category: missing scene/episode tag, mild angst
Archiving: Passion & Perfection
Disclaimer: ABC, Disney, Terry Goodkind, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, et al own this reality and these characters. I wrote this for my own entertainment and made no money from it.
Author’s Note: Much as I enjoyed parts of “Tears,” it ended way too quickly and easily for my tastes. Not to mention leaving Cara alone while Richard and Kahlan were all happy, happy, joy, joy. So, this is my quick fix for that. Before anyone asks, ending it where I did was intentional. It’s my form of subtext -- leaving things to the reader’s imagination *wink*. I hope you enjoy.

Kahlan adore you

Dissonance

It's probably extremely obvious that my current obsession is Legend of the Seeker. Even though Saturday's episode may well be the last *cries*, I don't think it's going to curb my enthusiasm any time soon. I've still got the whole first season to hunt down and watch (and yes, I know it's woefully lacking in Cara, but I like back story, so...) and then will happily hunt down second season eps to watch again and again. These are the characters I'm spinning story fragments for when I should be sleeping; these are the characters who actually brought my writing muse back from the Caribbean. (My editing muse is a responsible sort; she stays home with me.)

So what fandom will I be spending the next two-ish months focused on? Otalia; specifically the Otalia Virtual Season. Yes, I've been a part of the VS since the beginning as a beta reader. But in the next month and a half, I've got another beta to do and one and fourth episodes to write. (Yes, you read that correctly, I'm writing a fourth of an episode...it's a collaboration. *lol*)

It's not the first time I've been actively involved in fandoms for two shows at once.

I think it's safe to say that these shows are the most dissimilar of any of my other concurrent fandoms.

Maybe that's why I feel a bit schizophrenic these days...

Fic: That Which Does Not Die 3/3

Title: That Which Does Not Die
Fandom: Legend of the Seeker
Season/Spoilers: season two, an AU of “Eternity” (and, by default, also an AU of “Unbroken”); specific spoilers for “Broken,” “Desecration,” “Walter,” “Extinction,” and “Eternity”
Pairing: Cara/Kahlan friendship (or pre-slash *shrug*); brief mention of Cara/Dahlia
Rating/Warning: ages 18+ for violence, temporary character death, and torture (mostly off-screen and not terribly graphic, but still); also, there’s a potentially disturbing interaction between C/K
Category: AU, angst, hurt/comfort
Archiving: Passion & Perfection
Disclaimer: ABC, Disney, Terry Goodkind, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, et al own this reality and these characters. I wrote this for my own entertainment and made no money from it.
Author’s note: This is fairly dark, at least for me, with major Cara- and Kahlan-whumping. But after I saw the promo for “Eternity,” the idea wouldn’t leave me alone. I’d written a few pages and had the overall plot set before I saw that episode. The only thing I added afterwards was Dahlia. Didn’t plan to, but the muse insisted, so…. I also changed the time line, though it’s not explicitly mentioned; instead of less than a fortnight to get the Stone of Tears to the Pillars of Creation, I’m making it more like six weeks. What else? I know only the canon of the show, not the books, so the various Mord’Sith mentioned exist solely in my head. I’ve been working on this story so intensely that I no longer have any feel for whether it works, or doesn’t work, or is even remotely believable; feel free to share your opinion. Anyhow, hope you enjoy. If enjoy is the right word…
